This calculator multiplies the number of each coin type by its Actual Silver Weight (ASW) in troy ounces, then multiplies the total silver weight by the current spot price. Pre-1965 dimes, quarters, and half dollars are 90% silver. Kennedy halves from 1965–1970 are 40% silver. War Nickels (1942–1945) are 35% silver. American Silver Eagles contain exactly 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
